The Chi-Nations Youth Council commends the work of those unknown individuals who stood up against the ongoing violence the Chicago hockey team perpetuates against Native Peoples. The Chicago Blackhawks‘ (Facebook)

The owner of the Chicago Blackhawks, Rocky Wirtz, has a position as Board of Trustees chair at the Chicago Field Museum of Natural History (Facebook). This has allowed him to coerce and gain unrestricted access to Native Peoples while our ancestors and artifacts are being held hostage at the Field Museum. Just like Custer had his scouts, the BlackHawks owners have the Trickster Cultural Center of Schaumburg (Facebook), as well as the voting members of the Chicago American Indian Community Collaborative (CAICC) (Facebook), who refuse to make a statement or stand against the Chicago Blackhawks and their relationship with the Trickster Cultural Center and Field Museum.

As social consciousness has grown over the past decades, so has the Chicago Blackhawk’s performative gestures of buying their reprieve from those willing to sell out the health and humanity of our future generations.

As statutes of invaders, slaveholders, and white supremacists fall across the nation, so too should the images and language of the savage and dead “Indians”. The voices of the targeted are being heard because of direct actions like these. We denounce the idea that you need to create committees and advisory boards to do the right thing. We stand for justice and against the ongoing dehumanization of Native People and the exploitation of our knowledge systems, histories, and lands.
